Bangor coach Mark Hackett said all last week the road to the Pine Tree Conference Class A championship goes through Fairfield and Lawrence High School.
Now it goes through Bangor (7-0). In a battle of the top two teams in the Coaches Aid Class A poll, Bangor edged Lawrence 28-21 to Friday to wrestle away the state’s No. 1 ranking.

“We’ve been waiting for that game,” Hackett said.
Now everyone is waiting for Bangor.
The new Coaches Aid polls are out and as expected there are some changes.
Elsewhere in Class A, Bonny Eagle rebounded nicely, Windham continued its streak of dominant play and the run to the top-10 for South Portland was short-lived.
Thornton jumped up to No. 2 with another strong showing.
In Class B, Mountain Valley, Cape Elizabeth, Leavitt and Gardiner all won and there was little movement in the poll.
However, we do have our first team with a losing record in the poll. Falmouth (3-4) dropped to No. 10 after a tough loss to No. 1 Mountain Valley.
The top teams in Class C also won, but there were some small changes. Winthrop (4-3) defeated Jay (3-4) on Friday night to jump back into the poll. It replaced the Tigers.
