The games you need to see.

Brandon (5-2, No. 10 in 6A) at Meridian (6-1, No. 4 in 6A): The Bulldogs jumped all over Natchez, 44-15, last week behind their senior running back Roy Williams who racked up 227 yards on just 12 carries. The defending 5A state champion Tigers lost their first game last week to archrival, Oak Grove 28-21. With the Tigers loss and the Brandon win last week, a five-way tie developed in Region 3-6A. The Wildcats defense must stop the Williams and the Bulldogs' running game to win this intense matchup.

Ocean Springs (6-1, No. 6 in 6A) at Harrison Central (6-1, No. 3 in 6A):  The Greyhounds' defense has not allowed a point since giving up 14 points to Moss Point on Sept. 4. However this week they face a Red Rebels offense that averages more than 350 yards per game. The Red Rebels are led by their do-it-all quarterback Aerion Williams who averages more than 200 all-purpose yards per game. If you are on the coast this weekend, you might want to travel to Gulfport to watch this exciting Region 4-6A game.

Ridgeland (6-1, No. 4 in 5A) at Callaway (6-1, No. 6 in 5A):  The Chargers are already improved compared to last season's 4-6 record. This week they face a tough Titans team that beat the Charges 19-27 last season. The Titans are coming off a huge 35-28 win against rival Pearl. The Titans have racked up more than 330 yards per game this season behind quarterback Brantley Adams. Last week Denzel Knight caught four passes for 75 yards for the Chargers in a 35-12 victory over Lanier.

Pontotoc (7-0, No. 3 in 4A) at Shannon (7-0, No. 1 in 4A): This is a great matchup of two unbeaten powerhouses in class 4A. The Warriors have made their way to a 7-0 record behind a powerful offense that has outscored their opponents 194-62 this season. The Warriors are led by 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior quarterback Canden Dallas and 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior running back Randall Crayton who has racked up more than 660 all-purpose yards. The top-ranked Red Raiders are led by running back Keon McGaughy who ran 15 times for 170 yards and one touchdown in a 26-14 win against North Pontotoc last week .

Morton (8-0, No. 1 in 3A) at Velma Jackson (8-0, No. 4 in 3A): Morton’s high-flying offense has scored 363 points this season (45.8 per game), while its defense has only given up 64 points (8 per game). The Panthers average 412 yards of offense per game behind quarterback Percy Lewis. This week they face their toughest opponent of the season so far, the Falcons. The Falcons are undefeated on the season behind a powerful offense led by running back Anthony Green.

Puckett (6-1, No. 7 in 2A) at Loyd Star (7-0, No. 3 in 2A): The defending 1A champion Wolves had to move up to Class 2A this season. So far, the Wolves have had no problems transitioning with only one loss on the season to Bassfield, 27-21, in Week 3. This week they face an undefeated Hornets team that has only allowed 68 points all season. The Hornets rely on Marquis Hayes and their running game. This will be an outstanding 2A battle to attend.

Jackson Prep (6-2, No. 2 in MAIS AAA) at Presbyterian Christian (5-3): Four-time defending MAIS AAA champion Patriots have lost two games this season – falling to Pearl, 21-24, and Jackson Academy 10-7, a first for the champions since losing three games in the 2005 season. The Patriots knocked off then-unbeaten MAIS Forest, 21-19, last week. This week they travel to Hattiesburg to face the Bobcats who have only had football for seven years. However, the Bobcats are now lead by long-time Jackson Academy head coach Joey Hawkins.

Washington (6-1, No. 3 In MAIS AAA) at Jackson Academy (7-1, No. 1 in MAIS AAA): This may be one of the top MAIS AAA games of the season. With both teams only having one loss on the season, look for the winner of this game to make a run for the MAIS AAA title this season. Last year the Radiers beat the Generals, 41-7. Last week Michael Martin ran for three touchdowns in a 33-0 victory over Heritage Academy.

McLaurin (6-2, No. 9 in 3A) at Forest (5-1, No. 8 in 3A): Last week the Bearcats lost their first game of the season to MAIS powerhouse Jackson Prep. Not only did they lose the game they lost their star quarterback Lavadius Lyles to a knee injury. This will be a tough matchup for the Bearcats in trying to stop 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback Michael Young, who in 2008 threw for 1,460 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Slow Pitch Softball State Championships: Rain has caused the northern teams in the state to postpone games until today and possibly Saturday. This could push the state title games back to Monday depending on the completion of the North State championship games. George County will represent the South 6A team and will face the winner of Brandon and Grenada. All games will be at the V.A. Fields in Jackson.
