Best bets for week 7

Editor’s Note: Each Thursday, Coaches Aid will take a look at the top games throughout Vermont state for the upcoming seven days in Game Tracker.

Week 7 Games to watch

GIRLS SOCCER

Burlington at Essex, Thursday, Oct. 15, 4 p.m.

Last year they competed for the Division I title. This year they are struggling to find their stride in advance of the playoffs. Can either team get on a roll before the playoffs? This game could provide a momentum shift.

Enosburg at Milton, Thursday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m.

Dress warmly for this one. Vermont’s short summer has transitioned into early winter in a matter of days, but the play on the field between these two talented teams should be heated. Milton won the first meeting in overtime. The defending champion Yellowjackets are coming off an impressive win over Division I Rice, but the Division III Hornets won’t go down without a fight.

FIELD HOCKEY

Stowe at Missisquoi, Thursday, Oct. 15, 4 p.m.

Stowe has its sights on another Division III title berth, but Missisquoi is making noise, too, this season. A great late-season match-up that could be a semifinal preview.

FOOTBALL

St. Johnsbury at Essex, Friday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m.

Any game the high-flying Hornets play is a big game and St. Johnsbury has been decent this season. Sure, the Hilltoppers have a huge task ahead of them, but anything can happen in high school sports. If nothing else, watching the greatest high school passing offense ever in Vermont isn’t a bad way to spend a Friday night.

Mount Anthony at Burlington, Friday, Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m.

For some strange reason the Seahorses are the only Vermont high school football team still starting games at 7:30 p.m. But we digress. Both teams are in the Division I playoff mix, but BHS is ailing after losing its top two running backs to injury. Still, don’t count them out at home against an up-and-down Mountie squad.

Champlain Valley at North Country, Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m.

One of the stingiest defense (Redhawks) take on one of Division II’s most prolific offenses (Falcons) in a divisional battle with plenty of playoff implications.

BOYS SOCCER

South Burlington at Essex, Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m.

If what we are hearing is true, the Rebels - despite a lackluster first 10 games - are now healthy and primed for another run toward the Division I title game. This meeting with the title-contending Hornets will confirm SBHS as a player or expose them.
