There were big games in every division of Nevada football last week. In 4A, it was Legacy’s biggest win ever, a 7-6 defensive throttling of second ranked Palo Verde that rocked the fans of Southern Nevada football and vaulted the Longhorns into the number 2 spot behind Bishop Gorman. # 4 Del Sol topped #5 Silverado and in a big game up North, McQueen showed it’s far too early to be burying them when it comes to time to talk about possible championship runs. The Lancers destroyed North Valleys 57-0 to keep their repeat hopes alive.
In 3A, Truckee takes over at #1 after a monster win over previously top ranked Dayton, while ROP held onto the top spot in 2A. Coleville and Pahranaghat Valley continued to win big moving toward a possible 1A showdown come playoff time.Want to know who else fell from grace and who moved up? Well read on my friends as we take a look at Week 8 in the CoachesAid.com Rankings Remix.
4A

Gael RB Victor Belen rolls for on his way to a 53 yard scoring burst during Gorman's 72-0 romp over Bonanza. (Image courtesy NOS Prep Sports)
(Last week’s ranking in parenthesis)
1- (1) Bishop Gorman (7-0)- Beat Bonanza 72-0- This week vs. Western
The top ranked Gaels showed no signs of weakness on either side of the ball or special teams in their shellacking of the Cartwright clan from Bonanza. RB Victor Belen ran for 152 yards on a whopping four (4) carries (that’s 38 yards per pop folks) scoring TDS on runs of 30,38 and 53 yards. Running mate Shaquille Powell added 94 yards on eight carries and scored on runs of 2, 14 and 19 yards. The Gaels got two special teams scores as well. The “D”? Well let’s just say Hoss, Little Joe and Hop Sing were seen running from the woodshed with tears in their eyes.
2- (3) Legacy (7-0)- Beat Palo Verde 7-6- This week @ Cheyenne
WOW! What a defensive effort by the Longhorns! They allowed the vaunted Panther ground game but 140 total yards and did not allow Palo to score offensively. It was an impressive display to say the least. Sophomore L.J McMorris ran for 87 yards and scored on a nine yard run for the game winner. Easily the biggest win ever for the Longhorns, they can’t afford to look past Cheyenne this week, but enjoy the win guys!
3-(4) Del Sol (6-0)- Beat Silverado 27-7- This week vs. Centennial
The Dragons used a big game from Dez Reed (36 carries, 227 yards, three TDS) and a solid defensive effort from Kip Canyon and the boys to roll over previously unbeaten Silverado. The Del Sol defense allowed only 182 total yards and kept the Skyhawks out of the end zone until the game was well out of reach.
4-(2) Palo Verde (6-1)- Lost to Legacy 7-6- This week vs. Arbor View
Something is up with the Panther’s aura of invincibility. Legacy dominated them throughout the game. Turnovers were a big culprit but Legacy turned it over too. They can get well this week but Arbor View may want to look at the Legacy game films for the way to slow down the Panthers.
5-(6) Las Vegas (5-1)- Beat Chaparral 56-6- This week @ Canyon Springs
Riyaadh Nevins rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns as the Wildcats jumped on the Cowboys rolling to a 42-6 halftime lead before cruising home. Michael Glenn added 111 of his own, 35 of those coming on a scoring run in the second quarter. It’s a tricky game for the Wildcats this week against a 4-1 Canyon Springs squad that has surprised a few teams thus far.
6-(7) Reed (5-2)- Beat Hug 28-3- This week vs. Reno
Hmm the Raiders won even though the score was only 7-3 at half. Tyler Pine was held in check by the Hawk defense throwing for only 96 yards. RB Christian Thompson did rush for 121 yards and a score on 15 carries and Aaron Greenblatt added a rushing score as well.
7-(8) Bishop Manogue (5-1)- Beat Fallon 44-0- This week @ Douglas
Zach McElroy completed 10-12 for 176 yards and a TD, and also ran for a score. Austin Peterson ran for a pair of short TDS for the Miners. A big game looms this week as Manogue travels to Minden for a showdown with Douglas in what should be a tough defensive struggle.
8-(5) Silverado (5-1)- Lost to Del Sol 27-7- This week @ Liberty
Skyhawks couldn’t get the offense untracked against Del Sol. Terran Madu-Jules ran for 101 yards and scored on a 10 yard run but that was it. This week’s opponent Liberty does play tough “D” and lost in overtime to Basic 17-14.
9-(11) McQueen (4-2)- Beat North Valleys 57-0- This week vs. Hug
Ruh Roh…Look who’s back! The Lancers crushed NV as the offense rolled up 503 yards of total offense. Lucas Fejer scored on runs of 41, 51 and 4 yards. Nick Shepherd ran for 172 yards and Joey Sorgani threw for three scores. More importantly the Lancer defense allowed only 47 TOTAL YARDS on 33 plays and forced two turnovers!
10-(13) Cimarron (4-2)- Beat Durango 54-7- This week vs. Mojave
James Poole went off for 260 yards, scoring on runs of 47,32,79 and 55 yards. The Spartan defense held Julio Mora to 24 yards on 19 carries. Ball control and tough defense, it’s tough to beat that kind of balanced performance.

Basic quarterback Tyler Dobbins went to OT for a 17-14 win over Liberty. (Image courtesy NOS Prep Sports)
11-(10) Basic (5-1)- Beat Liberty 17-14 OT- This week @ Green Valley
The Wolves lost by a field goal to Del Sol two weeks ago and this time they win by a field goal in overtime against Liberty. Kevin Aviles boots the game winner and Tyler Dobbins accounts for two scores and a two point conversion. However, Basic gained only 93 total yards. The rivalry game with Green Valley this week is big for both teams.
12-(14) Carson (5-2)- Beat Damonte Ranch 48-13- This week vs. Galena
Blake Plattsmeier threw for 139 yards and two scores as the Senators rolled to a 48-0 lead. Should be a good game this week against Galena, but if the Senator defense shows up to play could be a tough week for the Grizz.
13-(15) Douglas (5-2)- Beat Wooster 39-7- This week vs. Manogue
Okay the win over Wooster isn’t a big deal. What is a big deal is this week’s showdown with Manogue. A win over the Miners throws the Tigers name into the playoff picture in a major league way.
14-(9) North Valleys (5-2)- Lost to McQueen 57-0- This week @ Elko
Wow, the slipper did not just fall off Cinderella’s foot it was torn off with malicious intent by McQueen. For the second week in a row the Panther’s offense was shut down. Elko is now licking their chops for the next shot at the team that was, a one point, 5-0.
15-(18) Canyon Springs (4-1)- Beat Rancho 34-7- This week vs. Las Vegas
Pioneer quarterback Tyler Ward threw for 252 yards and two scores as Rancho went down. Marquice Turner added three running TDS, scoring from 54, 14 and 15 yards out. It will be reality check time for Canyon Springs as they play host to Las Vegas this week.
16-(16) Spanish Springs (5-2)- Beat Elko 13-6- This Week vs. Santee
Cougar quarterback Tanner Oates scored on two long scoring runs (73,54) but it was the defense that kept the game in the victory column.
17-(19) Desert Oasis (4-2)- Beat Clark 32-13- This week @ Pahrump Valley
Elijah Mitchell scored on a 55 yard run and a 35 yard pick-six, while QB Brennan Stott and RB RC Hunt threw TD passes to each other in the Diamondbacks win over Clark.
18-(12) Durango (5-2)- Lost to Cimarron 54-7- This week vs. Sierra Vista
What happened? The Trailblazers got manhandled by the Spartans and standout running back Julio Mora was completely shut down (24 yards on 19 carries) in the loss. They should get better this week against SV.
19-(NR) Cheyenne (4-3)- Beat Centennial 13-6- This week vs. Legacy
The Desert Shields might be in too deep this week against Legacy. They didn’t put much offense up against Centennial and Jordan Butler was held in check by the Bulldogs defense. The Longhorn defense is much tougher than Centennial’s.
20-(NR) Galena (4-3)- Beat South Tahoe 49-13- This week @ Carson
The Grizzly offense was on in the win over the Vikings, with Eric Howsley rushing for 165 yards and three scores. QB Beau Bickel threw for 182 yards and two scores while completing 10 of 12 in the process. Could be a shootout this week with Carson.
On the bubble…
Desert Pines, Arbor View, Spring Valley
3A Notes

Truckee Quarterback Ben Bolton threw for five TDS in his teams 55-6 win over Dayton.
1-(2) Truckee (6-0)
Wolverines swept the Dust Devils or Dayton right out of the top spot with a 55-6 pasting. QB Ben Bolton (10-14 230 yards) threw for five TDS hooking up with WR James DePew (5 receptions, 138 yards) for four of those. The 3A division is now firmly a case of whoever wants to be the man, must beat the man. And the man is Truckee.
2-(3) Boulder City (5-2)
Eagles win behind Devin Combs 150 yards and 2 TDS. Moapa showdown this week
3-(1) Dayton (5-1)
See #1 Ouch
4-(7) Moapa (3-3)
Hmm Pirates beat 4A Foothill 45-13 behind QB Kelen Weiss (12-16, 258 yards, 4 TDS). Pirates and Boulder City square off this week.
5-(5) Fernley (3-3)
Faces Lowry (4-2) in another showdown game this week up North.
2A Notes
1-(1) ROP (6-0)
Remains only undefeated team in division but must visit #5 Battle Mountain this week
QB Darrion Garry Scored on a 99 yard (yes that is correct 99) run and returned a kickoff 75 for another score. Jeremiah Wright added 129 yards on the ground and a TD.
2-(2) The Meadows (4-1)
Beat Needles 36-29 behind QB Garrett Gosse (16-28, 250, 2 TDS) and RB David Liu who raced for 111 yards and a TD.
3-(4) Mountain View (4-2)
Mountain View’s Cortland LeBoeuf carried 21 times for 168 yards and two TDs, scoring on runs of 59 and 3 yards. Karl Benjamin caught five passes for 78 yards and two scores as the Saints held off hard charging Calvary Chapel 32-26.
4-(5) Lincoln County (4-2)
Ripped Agassi 54-0 behind QB Eric Rippitoe (133 yards, one TD) and RB Travis Sonnenberg’s 98 yards rushing and two scores.
5-(8) Battle Mountain (4-2)
Michael Lake scored three times on two short runs and a 15 pass from Matt Newgard as Battle Mountain stopped Pershing County’s four game winning streak.
1A Notes
1-(1) Coleville (7-0)
Playing without Jason Peters, Coleville rolled to a 66-0 win over Pyramid Lake thanks to Cody Clark’s four TD passes and running back John Hamilton’s 121 yards on the ground (TD runs of 6 and 68 yards).
2-(2) Pahranaghat Valley (6-0)
The defense scored two TDS as the Warriors rolled 72-18 over Spring Mountain. Jensen Joens scored three times and Chase Hansen added a pick-six and a score off an 18 yard pass from Cody Hosier.
3-(3) Eureka (7-0)
These guys just keep winning we just don’t know by how much or who’s scoring for them. No one returns a call or email. What’s up with that?
4-(4) Laughlin (6-1)
Corey Cook continues to impress.
5-(6) Mineral County (5-2)
Logan Espinosa accounts for 314 total yards as Mineral County wins big. They now prepare for a visit to #1 Coleville this week.
