The playoff races are slowly being defined as the season heads into the proverbial home stretch.
Bonny Eagle, the two-time defending Class A state champs, is for the first time in more than two years in unfamiliar territory – playing as the hunters.
The Scots dropped to a ho-hum 4-2 after losing 14-0 to Windham (5-1). It marked the first time in at least eight years that Bonny Eagle failed to score. Furthermore, the Scots came into the showdown with 99 points combined in their last two games.
Jack Mallis scored both touchdowns for the Eagles, who are now the favorite to win the conference, along with Thornton Academy.
Here’s a look back at another wild weekend on the gridiron …
CLASS A
Imadhi Zagon rushed for 301 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead Portland (4-2) past Gorham. 54-12. The Bulldogs have won four straight after losing to Deering and Bonny Eagle to open the season.

Speaking of Deering, it lost another tough game, this one 36-34 to suddenly dangerous South Portland (4-2). Ryan Curit rushed for an 80-yard touchdown with a little over seven minutes left to secure the victory. The Red Riots, who have defeated Bonny Eagle and Deering, are a legitimate playoff contender.
Curit rushed for 221 yards and an eye-popping five touchdowns.
Biddeford (5-1) rebounded from a tough loss to Portland with a 28-13 win over Sanford (4-2). Tyler Parker rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tigers.
In Eastern A, Lawrence (6-0) easily passed its first strong test of the season with a 28-14 win over Lewiston (4-2). Christian Powers rushed for a game-high 190 yards and a touchdown to lead the Bulldogs.
Bangor (6-0) cruised past Oxford Hills 35-7 thanks to another strong performance from Lonnie Hackett, who rushed for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Bangor hosts Lawrence on Friday in what likely will determine the top spot in the PTC A.
CLASS B
Leavitt established itself as the premier team in the Pine Tree Conference with a 35-0 win over Morse. The game was a rematch of a conference semifinal game last season, which the Shipbuilders (4-2) won. Josh Strickland and Eric Theiss rushed for touchdowns to lead the Hornets (6-0).
Gardiner (5-1) subdued Belfast 44-0 and in two weeks will get a shot at Leavitt. Alonzo Connor rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.
In Western B, Falmouth kept its playoff hopes alive with a 36-0 win over Gray-New Gloucester (2-4). Caleb Bowden rushed for 227 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Yachtsmen (3-3).
York kept pace with a 70-0 win over Lake Region.
Cape Elizabeth (6-0) continues to put up impressive performances and continues to impress. The Capers rolled past playoff-hopeful Wells (4-2) 40-0. Cape Elizabeth held the Warriors to a minuscule 48 rushing yards.
CLASS C
Dirigo overwhelmed Livermore Falls 49-19 to take control of the Campbell Conference. Spencer Ross finished with 281 all-purpose yards and three scores to pace the Cougars (6-0). Shawn Whiting threw a touchdown pass and Chandler White ran for another to lead the Andies (5-1).
Dean Perrone threw for two touchdowns to lead Old Orchard Beach (4-2) past Jay (3-3) in an important Campbell Conference game.
Bucksport may have turned the corner in the Little Ten Conference. The Golden Bucks sank Calais 46-8 to earn their third victory in the last four games.
Foxcroft Academy rolled over Stearns 41-0 thanks to a pair of Josiah Richard touchdowns. The Ponies improved to 6-0.
